Fiction is a lie that tells us true things over and over again.
Neil Gaiman
We have art in order not do die from the truth.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Tell all the truth but tell it slant —
Emily Dickinson
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind —
There’s a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth.

Re fiction being a lie that tells the truth, I’ve always liked that quote, but I always want to re-write it – yet I can’t.
The problem seems to be that the truth is constantly struggling against a giant army of lies that claim to be the truth. I’m a follower of the Mexican philosopher Octavio Paz, who often referred to the “verdad verdadero” – the truth that is really true – the tree that falls in the forest whether anyone is watching or not.
